False Friends

Do you know what a 'false friend' is? No, it is not a friend who cheats on you. A "False Friend" is a word or expression that has a similar form to one in a person's native language, but a different meaning.

Today we are going to learn some false friends in Spanish and English. For example rope and ropa. Rope in Spanish is actually cuerda, while ropa in English is clothes. Another example is carpet and carpeta. Carpet in Spanish is alfombra and carpeta in English is folder. Finally, college and colegio. As you may know college is usually the same as Universidad, while colegio is school.
